Dunbar linebacker Horace Miller has one more football game to play in before he officially concludes his prep career and enrolls as a freshman at Louisville. The 6-1, 205-pound Miller has been selected to play in the New Jersey-Northeast All-Star Football Classic this weekend.
The All-Star Classic will be played on June 7 at 3 p.m. and is being televised by local FOX stations, with re-airs on the NFL Network throughout the summer. Miller and the rest of the participants arrived in Piscataway, N.J., on Wednesday to start preparations for the game.
"We are going to have practices and media time – it's going to be pretty good,"
Miller said. "It's at Rutgers – on their field – and we'll be practicing at their facilities. That's a good thing for me seeing that I am going to Louisville. I'll get used to that field and used to hitting people on that field."
Miller is one of 45 players selected out of the states of New York, Connecticut, New Hampshire, the District of Columbia, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia to play against the top 45 players from the state of New Jersey.
"There are a lot of guys going to Temple, UConn and Rutgers, so I'll be familiar with a lot of the guys I'll be playing against for the next four years,"
Miller noted. "It's good for me because I'll get adapted to my position and playing against the great competition that will be there."
Miller will be lining up at outside linebacker this Sunday, the position he is expected to start out at with Louisville. Miller sees the game as another step in his ongoing preparation for his career at Louisville.
"I've been getting prepared mentally and physically,"
Miller said. "I've been watching a lot of film on guys like Jelani Jenkins and guys of that caliber to see what did they do to become the players that they are. Then, I've just been working out on my regular schedule. I'm going to be going to [a training center] to work on my conditioning and get my wind back."
Miller is leaving for Louisville permanently on July 7 so he can start the second summer session the following day. He's not yet sure who his roommates will be, but he hopes to room with fellow incoming freshman Sean Farr, also of Dunbar, and Mike Privott of Norfolk, Va.
Miller has worn No. 33 throughout his high school career and he hopes to secure that number at Louisville as well. Running back Bilal Powell is currently the only Cardinal wearing No. 33, and considering Powell plays on offense, Miller thinks he has a good shot at securing that number.
